Elegance regained The very chic rue de Varenne, an emblematic setting of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, is hosting a major renovation. This complete renovation operation of a Haussmann apartment marks a manifesto of luxurious sobriety and purification.
Praise of minimalism The architectural bias proved deliberately radical. Faced with the ornamental abundance typical of the Haussmann era, the project owner accepted the bold choice of stripping away the space. Original moldings, cornices, chimneys and doors have been systematically removed. This clean slate aimed to amplify the existing volumes, thus magnifying the high ceilings and the natural light provided by the large French windows opening onto the long balcony on the street side. The only vestige of the preserved past: the elegant existing Hungarian point parquet floor, the rehabilitation of which brings texture and history.

Harmony of materials and nuances Spatial unity is ensured by a selection of materials of great finesse, creating subtle resonances between the different areas of the apartment. The immaculate Carrara marble gives a timeless nobility to the ponds. On the walls and custom layouts, a delicate monochrome has been established around the shade Farrow & Ball n°241 “Skimming Stone”, providing an enveloping softness. The whole is completed by ecru-tone carpets and bleached oiled parquet floors, the marriage of which creates an atmosphere of absolute serenity conducive to the well-being of its occupants.
The structural and logistical challenge Beyond aesthetics, the reorganization of spaces required major structural intervention. The heart of the project lay in the strategic movement of the kitchen, transferred from the rear of the apartment to a more central position, thus optimizing flows and conviviality. Such a modification, including the drilling of a load-bearing wall, required a rigorous protocol: detailed presentations to the architect of the building and submission to a vote at the General Assembly to obtain the essential validation of the co-ownership. A necessary step to reconcile the heritage of a prestigious building with the requirements of modern comfort.
