The reinvented Student Home

The beating heart of the boarding school is the student hostel. It traditionally turns into a place of transition, often utilitarian, rarely inspiring. Our development project shakes up this standard, proposing a bold transformation of a space dedicated to preparatory class students, as well as to the associative and cultural life of the school. The ambition is to create a place that transcends its primary function to become a true, warm and stimulating center of life. The architectural concept chosen is that of the “Brasserie Parisienne”, injecting a dose of timeless elegance and urban soul into the school grounds. It is no longer a simple home, it is a parenthesis, a place of breathing.

The layout is designed to be as clear as possible, imperatively respecting safety standards and the conformity of the exits with the reception capacity. The large space effect is sought after, amplified by cleverly crafted brightness and the strategic integration of mirrors, emblematic elements of large breweries. The kitchenette is discreet, dedicated to the essential needs of students (meals without cooking, microwave only), integrating a crucial storage area for marauding, underlining the social commitment of the establishment. The relaxation area frees itself from classic shelves and bookcases to favor seating and conviviality, while the music area is a real stage dedicated to the school's Jazz club. With two upright pianos, full drums, guitars, bass and amplifiers, this space requires impeccable acoustic treatment so that jam sessions do not disrupt revisions.

The decor is a total immersion in the atmosphere of a brasserie of yesteryear: a majestic wooden bar, topped with a patinated metal top, anchors the space. The general atmosphere is warm and cozy, reinforced by the installation of deep benches inviting confidence and rest. The decorative details are a tribute to classic and refined architecture: framed panels, ceiling boxes, elegant columns and decorative frames adorn the walls.

On the floor, the choice of parquet provides superior quality to the space and durability. The palette of materials is rich and evocative: zinc combines with brown-stained oak wood, providing depth and texture. The walls are adorned with green paint, a sophisticated shade which dialogues with the velvet fabrics of the seats. This concept of “Brasserie Parisienne” succeeds in offering students a place of study and social life which is at the same time friendly, relaxing and intimate, a cocoon where the demands of studies meet the pleasure of an environment quality architecture. This is proof that a student hostel can be much more than just a common room: a true aesthetic and functional statement of intent.
